| Co. Kildare is renowned for its horse breeding and racing. It has luxuriant grasslands and peatlands crossed by canals and the Barrow and Liffey Rivers. In Co. Laois, discover the Slieve Bloom Mountains, Abbeyleix heritage town, the Rock of Dunamase, Timahoe Round Tower and the Romanesque doorway at Killeshin. Longford is rich in heritage from Corlea Bog Interpretative Centre, Carrigglass Manor and Ardagh - one of Ireland's premier heritage villages. Co. Louth offers visitors a wealth of attractions and activities such as the Cooley Peninsula, the Boyne Valley and the ancient historic town of Drogheda. Co. Meath is known as the Royal County and is steeped in history, from the passage tombs at Newgrange, Dowth and Knowth to the royal site at Tara. In Co. Offaly, visit some of the last remaining tracts of peatland in Europe at Clara or Mongans Bogs, visit the ancient monastic site of Clonmacnois and the Slieve Bloom mountains. In Co. Westmeath, Athlone Castle, Belvedere Gardens, Fore, and Dun na Si are attractions not to be missed. Co.
